Week 9

Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooo

              Helloooooooooooo

(as sung by the Three Stooges),

This week we study triads and introduce the basics of harmony. There is something simple yet profound embodied in a triad. I personally believe that the planet would stop rotating if we did not have triads. Two notes at a time sounds great but a triad is divine.

A MIDI example from the on-line text provides a eartraining routine for triads. One student who studied this pattern told me it turned up in dream. Pretty weird, dreaming about eartraining. What dedication. Eartraining quiz 12 is on triad recognition. Many people find it easier to recognize triads than two note intervals. Please try out Eartraining Quizzes no. 4, 5 (more intervals) and 12 (triads) this week.

The required test on triads is posted this week.

Eartraining

Let's try out some more eartraining quizzes. Give ETQ4, ETQ5 and ETQ12 a try. Remember, your eartraining quiz scores are not used to calculate your course grade.

Have fun,
