Week 10

*week10_mon* - *week10_fri*

Hello Class,

This week we study modes. The modes are really just another set of scales. Yes, more scales so that we can create some sounds and moods different from the ones that can be created using the major and minor scales. If you are interested in styles others than classical then you will need to get into modes. Rock & Roll uses the Mixolydian and Dorian modes frequently, Lydian mode is common in Jazz. You already know the structure of the Aeolian mode. Yes, you do. Flamenco afficianados will find life unbearable without the Phrygian mode. All of this variety and it's all related to something we already know: the major scale.

In addition to the topic of modes, please try out Eartraining Quizzes no. 6 and 7 (more intervals)

We'll let the topic of Modes simmer for a week. The test on modes will be next week. The required test for this week is Midterm 2 are accessed from the "Quizzes" area. Midterm 2 is due on *week10_fri*.

Eartraining

Please try out some more eartraining quizzes. Give ETQ6 and ETQ7 a try. Remember, your eartraining quiz scores are not used to calculate your course grade, however I do want you to try them. Eartraining can be very humbling. It's good to be humble.

Have fun,
