That's 9 percent larger than the $400.5 billion shortfall for the corresponding period last year. From Oct. 1, 2003, through August, spending has totaled $2.11 trillion, up 5.9 percent from the same period a year ago. So revenues are up 5.2 percent but their spending increases 5.9 percent. Doesn't anyone in the budget office own a calculator? Maybe a sliderule? Abacus? Of course the deficit estimates for 2005 are even higher. When did the Republicans drop "fiscal responsibility" from their platform? It's a lie to say they ARE fiscally responsible. A total lie, because they are completely irresponsible. They need serious credit counsuling. Did you know that there are people in this administration who think that budget deficits DON'T matter? !!!???!!! One of them has the last name of Cheney.
